Festivals Across The World Celebrating Lunar Eclipses
When early man first glimpsed a lunar eclipse, he was terrified beyond imagining. He thought the moon, which had so long lit his way at night, was going to be gone forever. But gradually, on keeping careful records of events in the night sky, people learned to predict patterns and so could predict when the next eclipse would occur. And today, far from being thought of as portents of disaster as they once were, lunar eclipses are becoming occasions for celebration! Here are just a few of those events:
- On July 26, 2020, the film studio Summit Entertainment held an event in twelve cities, including Atlanta, Philadelphia, and Miami, called “Twilight Now.” They put on the movies “Twilight” and “the Twilight Saga: New Moon.”
- On December 21, 2010, a Full Moon, Lunar Eclipse & Winter Solstice Celebration was held in the Neighborhood Congregational Church in Laguna Beach, California. The festivities included music played on the didgeridoo!
- Also on that day, the Hawaiian oceanside retreat Kalani hosted a week- long series of events that included a one- hour massage, a Moon- day program with fire dancing and a performance by the Puna Men’s Chorus, followed by Hula Tuesday.
